There have been alot of play in the news lately about the role that food allergies play in some people's lives. A couple months ago a young girl age 13 died because of her peanut allergy. It is sad that there are not people considerate of these special circumstances. Several months back there was an article written by this reporter complaining about her child not being able to take certain items to school because of the other kids allergies. This pissed me off. She was blessed to have a child born with no issues.
I am writing this post because mini me and I have decided to get more strict with her diet. My oldest Boo was born with a nut allergy. He can not touch one or he is going into anaphylatic shock. I finally had that under control. Only 3 severe reactions in his 20 years on this earth. Thankfully none of them lead to death.
Then I was blessed to have Mini Me. She was diagnosed by a visual check at the ripe old age of 2 weeks! She was born allergic to milk, soybean, eggs etc. Let's just say the first 3 years of her life were hard. On her and on me. I chose to breast feed her. I had to change my diet so that she would get all the nutrients that she needed with none of the wrong allergies included. Around the age of 3, I stopped breastfeeding her and she switched to Rice milk. Now this was back in the day when it was not in all the grocery stores. I had to have Walmart special order it for me. And it was not covered by WIC. So I had to come out of pocket about $2.98 for 32 ounces. She would go through 2 or 3 cartons a day. But I never complained! A mother does what she has to for her children.
At the ripe old age of 5 or 6 years old she finally outgrew her milk allergy. YIPPY I gave her ice cream for the first time in her life. She did not know how to eat from an ice cream cone. She still has a little allergy to milk but nothing that bothers her at all. And then about the age of 9 she out grew the egg allergy. Once again she still has alittle allergy to Egg but nothing that bothers her.
To this day she is still allergic to several major foods like wheat and soybean to name a few. I have been good at watching what she eats but still letting her dip here and there. Well Mini me and I decided that as of September 2013 no more dipping. She is going to stop eating anything that she is allergic to. We hope it drastically improves her asthma as well. We are starting a new adventure...... wish us well!
